Manuel Antonio CR vacation

We headed to Manuel Antonio with my parents for a week long vacation after the New Year. Below we're having dinner at Cayuga Inn, a local typical restaurant outside Quepos. We had a great time, we zipped, we lounged, we rafted, we hiked, we swam, we played cards and we watched many local wildlife in the jungle and most of all recharged our batteries!
we took the Canopy TiTi tour and enjoyed our first time ziplining, what a rush!

Lisa ziplining, what an awesome experience!!

Papa Bob zipping!

Today's Gabi's 1st birthday (Jan 25th), photo below is not her but surely she and the monkey share some behavioral traits! Before everyone rises I'm using quiet time to capture one of our recent vacations to the National Manuel Antonio Park earlier in the month. We had a fantastic time and really enjoyed seeing more of the beauty CR offers, we're so fortunate to be living here!

exploring white-faced monkeys on our boat tour

Tatum's not too sure about how close the monkeys are getting
"ok, maybe it's pretty cool, they are pretty cute"

McKenna wasn't expecting a monkey for a hat

far better to feed them by hand then wear them as a hat!

three more monkeys looking for relatives on the monkey tour

a picture perfect beach at Damas Island...kind of felt like we were on our own private beach
taking a stroll to Damas Island, you can see the ocean in the middle of the photo-Nana Leen, Gabi and Taty walking through a grove of palm trees to get there

Tatum lost a tooth while playing in the ocean, amazingly she came away with the tooth and looked forward to seeing if the toothfairy visits CR

Gabi loved sitting at the beachline where the waves reached and playing in the sand, tasting her fair share :)

Gabi is still very flexible....and the envy of the yoga fans worldwide

we enjoyed playing cards on our balcony overlooking the beautiful hotel gardens
McKenna and Lisa sporting our matching beach wraps. In the background hanging across are some of the paintings that we watched an artist make. We ended up bringing a couple home as souvenirs-doing our share to help the local economy.

we enjoyed watching a troop of white faced monkeys monkey around

Tatum gets clued into the monkey eyeing her drink

here's Tatum enjoying her drink not realizing the monkey above her was coveting it

Nana Leen takes a turn with Gabi in the backpack......yipee!
McKenna and Tatum take a run into the ocean to cool off

group photo while on the hike -everyone's in good spirits considering we rose at 6:30am and have hiked 3 hours, not bad for the vacationing crew!

many arts and craft vendors which made it fun to shop!
getting our feet wet in the ocean, the water was very warm

Feliz Navidad 2008

We've enjoyed our first holidays in Costa Rica this season. It's been filled with special family time, new traditions and many fun gatherings with new friends. We've been here for five months now and are truly acclimating. We all chatter spanish quite often and much to our amazement often we're understood!? Best wishes to all for a Feliz Prospero Ano Nuevo 2009!
celebrating Boxing Dayat the Stubbs home, David, Juletta and kids, Sue Lyn and Sean...we were introduced to Mahjong ( a chinese game) and opening crackers were a big hit too!
Tatum and Sean....Sean was the master music dj helping the girls download music to their new MP3 players

McKenna, Sue Lyn and Tatum....the girls enjoyed doing fuse bead designs and playing pick up stix

The Stubbs family( Juletta, Sean, David and Sue Lyn) originally from the UK have lived in CR for 4 years and have been very helpful to our getting settled here. Both Brad and I worked with David at HP many years ago in the Bay Area. In addition to living in the Bay Area and UK, they've lived in Hong Kong and Singapore with Sue Lyn and Sean speaking fluent Mandarin.
Christmas Day in the gardens of Hotel Bougainvillea, our very nice favorite restaurant

Tatum's wondering why her questions are not being answered?

On Christmas Eve we joined our neighbors, Alberto, Carolina, Marie Paula and Valleria Loria, at Carolina's Grandmother's house for a family celebration. We arrived around 3pm and enjoyed mingling with 50+ relatives, a tradition amongst the family. All the family lives in the greater San Jose area with some cousins attending college in the states, back for the holiday break. We've really enjoyed getting to know the Loria family, their girls and McKenna and Tatum are close in age and attend the same school. Carolina is my key resource for learning anything about CR and she's been a chief chaufeer showing us around the area, a very daunting task!

Christy, Carolina's mother and the Marie Paula and Valleria's grandmother, was assisting Santa as he passed out gifts to all the grandchildren, young and adult, much to our surprise he also had gifts for our girls.....fortunately!

Tatum's watching closely as Santa enters the room....we hadn't anticipated seeing Santa here.
Tatum put her bow on Gabi's head.....her present for the evening!

we spent much time outside in the garden, very lovely, only wish I'd taken more pictures before darkness
